My Name is Capt. Feroze Kotwal, I started my Sea Career with Wallem Shipmanagement in 1988 as a deck cadet. Sailed with them till early 2008 on various types of ships including the largest tanker afloat the Jahre Viking. Other experiences include Serving as an observer/owners representative prior taking over new takeover vessels, on behalf of owners / Managers & subsequently taking over the vessel. Attended vessels as Training superintendent carrying out various trainings & Audits on the vessel.
After my 20 years of sailing with Wallem and successfully commanding Wallem vessels, in early 2008, Joined then ashore as a Fleet Personnel Superintendent at their office in Mumbai with 60 oil & Chemical Tankers directly under my supervision. Job profile included Placement, Planning and Recruitment of all senior & junior officers, interview assessment, proposing to technical department/owners, pre-joining briefing, communicating with vessels & officers on leave, agents, consulates etc. & also over seeing all logistics and flag state documentation and maintaining a good relation with sailing staff.
2010 to Dec 2011, served with Executive Ship Management in their Mumbai Office. During this time carried out direct responsibilities with respect to Placement, Planning and Recruitment of only senior officers for around 55 Vessels which Included Crude oil tankers, Product tankers, gas carriers & Bulk Carriers with all Indian Manning. The job also included interview assessment, proposing to tech- department, pre-joining briefing, communicating with officers on leave etc.
From January 2012 till Oct 2015, I have been serving with Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement Ltd. (BSM) at Mumbai, heading their Tanker fleet. Besides New recruitment, my Job profile includes Placement - Planning, interview assessment, proposing to technical department, pre-joining briefing, communicating with officers on leave etc.
I was also holding the portfolio of Management Representative(MR) for BSM, Crewing division. Being the MR, besides bringing in various improvements to the Quality Systems, I was instrumental in clearing a number of ISO 9001-2008 & MLC 2006 audits conducted by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA). I was also actively involved & responsible for clearing the RPSL audits with IRS for our office.
I have successfully completed the Lead Auditor Course Conducted by LR Quality Assurance and am certified for same.
Over the period of around 8+ years that I have been working ashore I managed to achieve a retention rate of officers between 95% & 98% . Established a Rotation system for officers with respect to type & size of vessels. Increased and established the pool strength of officers. Maintained target of over 98% on time reliefs. Served in the capacity of an objective head with respect to Strategy Development in Executive Ship Management. Served as the MR with BSM & was instrumental in bringing in various changes to the Quality Systems as well as successfully clearing Various ISO 9001 – 2008 Quality System Audits including MLC 2006 as well as RPSL Audits.
